Heather Cavender, LMT (MA 98092)
Heather has been a fan of massage since she was pregnant with her child and experienced the firsthand benefits of massage therapy and chiropractic care. She started her career as a massage therapist in August of 2009 at the Denver School of Massage Therapy in Westminster, CO. It was there that she gained an understanding of the human body with classes like anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. She also studied massage modalities like deep tissue, trigger point therapy, sports massage, prenatal, and myofascial release. After graduating from the 815-hour program, she obtained her Colorado Massage Therapy license in August in 2010. Her recent move to Valrico, FL brought her to Stewart Chiropractic & Wellness as a licensed Florida Massage Therapist in August of 2021.
Over the years, Heather has worked in a variety of settings. She owned a massage practice in Arvada, CO from May 2012 to July of 2021 before closing the business to move to Florida and open The Little Massage Boutique, LLC. Heather customizes each massage and uses multiple massage techniques to achieve longer lasting results for her clients. Heather believes in working alongside other health practitioners like chiropractors and acupuncturists to help reach one’s goals faster, and treat the body as a whole. This is why she is excited to be working with Dr. Nicole Stewart inside of Stewart Chiropractic & Wellness.
In her free time Heather enjoys spending time with her family and her 2 fur babies, traveling, going to the beach, yoga and going to the gym.
1. Relieves Stress
A single massage session can have a significant impact when it comes to alleviating the symptoms of stress. It can lower the heart rate as well as cortisol levels. Since cortisol is the body’s “stress hormone,” the lower this is, the better off you are.
2. Improves Circulation
One of the results of massage is getting blood to flow in and out of various areas of the body through the pressure on the muscles. This improves the flow of the circulatory system, helping the body to more effectively get toxins out and nutrients into the muscles and other various parts of the body.
3. Improves Posture
Through relaxing tense muscles, massage therapy can help reduce or even eliminate posture issues. Considering the impact that poor posture can have on the body, this can prevent health issues before they even happen. When working with someone familiar with postural distortions, the massage therapist can even recognize and point out the specific problem areas and what to do in order to prevent tension in those particular muscles.
4. Boost the Immune System
Research has shown that individuals receiving regular massage therapy have a better immune function. The primary cause of this was shown to be an increase in the activity level of the immune system’s natural “killer cells.”
5. Mood Enhancement
Studies have shown time and time again that mood can have a dramatic impact on the immune system and the overall well-being of the body. When the tension is released from the body, the tight muscles are relaxed, and the blood flow is improved, this improved feeling of well-being typically improves mood.
